Recipe - Double Chocolate Pie

This is a family favorite I discovered many years ago. It's super quick and easy to prepare too. I hope you enjoy it!

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1-1/2 cups cold fat-free milk, divided
  • 1 package (1.4 ounces) sugar-free instant chocolate fudge pudding mix
  • 1 carton (8 ounces) frozen fat-free whipped topping, thawed, divided
  • 1 reduced-fat graham cracker crust (9 inches)
  • 1 package (1 ounce) sugar-free instant white chocolate or vanilla pudding mix
  • Semisweet chocolate curls and shavings, optional
DIRECTIONS: In a bowl, whisk 3/4 cup milk and chocolate pudding mix for two minutes or until thickened. Fold in 1-3/4 cups whipped topping. Spread into crust. In another bowl, whisk the remaining milk and the white chocolate pudding mix for two minutes or until slightly thickened. Fold in remaining whipped topping. Spread over chocolate layer. Refrigerate for four hours or until set. Garnish with chocolate curls, if desired.

Review - Angel Falls

TITLE:
Angel Falls
RATING: ★★★★

Summary (from Goodreads): Nestled into the hills of the Northern Cascade Mountains in Washington state, Liam and Mike (Michaela) Campbell have a picture-perfect marriage and family. While Liam enjoys the comforts of being a small-town doctor with an old family name, Mike cares for their two children and her beloved horses. But when a horrible accident leaves Mike in a coma, Liam frantically searches for a way to ignite her memories and awaken her. What he discovers makes him question the foundations of their love, as Mike has a secret past as "Kayla" and a previous marriage to her first love, Julian True. Though still in a coma, Mike responds to these stories. Liam knows he must contact Julian, and gamble his future on the past memories of a woman whose true identity and feelings are unknown to him.

REVIEW: I started reading Kristin Hannah's books after I fell in love with The Great Alone back in 2020, and since then I've read most of her newer releases. One thing I noticed about Angel Falls is that her writing has greatly improved since this book was published back in 2000. I enjoyed the story, but it lacked the gut-wrenching emotion I've become used to in Kristin's novels. The way her son acted after the heroine's accident was very annoying, and so was everyone calling him Bretster. Like I said, her writing has improved significantly since this book was published. I would recommend it, if you're a fan, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Review - Ugly Love

TITLE:
Ugly Love
RATING: ★★★★

Summary (from Goodreads): When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

REVIEW: Okay...now, I love Colleen Hoover just as much as the next person. Her books have always left their mark on me in some way or other, and Ugly Love was no different, but to be completely honest, I felt kind of disappointed after reading this one. One thing I love about Colleen's books are the amazing plots, and although there was a good storyline to Ugly Love, what really makes up 80% of the book is just sex. Now, I'm not a prude by any stretch of the imagination, but after awhile even I kept thinking, "Good grief...AGAIN?" It was like the two main characters had nothing else in common besides lust. If you can overlook that then I would recommend Ugly Love. If you don't like raunchy tales, then you might want to skip this one.

Sullivan Book Nook April Update

Got the little free library cleaned and sanitized today. I also changed out the books and added a bunch of new kids books. They are always free, and you don’t have to leave a book to take one. If you’re into gardening, there are some seed packets available in the Kindness Box. If you see something you’d like to have, please come get it.
